Head ‘Em Up

The last week in MT, PW and I snuck out for some horseback riding. It’s always been my favorite thing to do and I just can’t wait until B is ready to hit the open fields with us.

My step brother, Mike, was planning to take us on a gorgeous trail ride up to an old saw mill. I’ve been there once before and it’s really gorgeous riding up and there’s a Sound of Music moment at the top of the mountain that would make anyone sing about the hills being alive.

As we headed out, we noticed four cows across the road headed away from the ranch. So our plans changed to go round up some cattle and get them back to the right pasture. Which is a bonus for me because there’s a lot more action moving cows.

The blue blue sky with the yellow grass is gorgeous!

A few hours, 5ish miles and 13 pairs of cows later – everyone was back where they were supposed to be!

Ride ’em Cowgirl

The first week we arrived in MT, Baylor was scheduled for riding lessons with a friend’s wife. She is a teacher and she and her family have an arena and a pony perfect for lessons. I skipped the first lesson and I was totally shocked at the second lesson how amazing she did! Our friend, Carolyn, also noted that she seemed like a natural. She has a calm yet excited respect for the horse, Duke. She listened to everything Carolyn told her and she did each action, even the scary ones, happily. I’m excited to find her a stable at home and keep up her skills. Can’t wait until we can go out for rides together.

You gotta love having a school teacher teaching riding. Carolyn put the letters of her name on signs around the arena and B had to ride Duke to each letter in order.

In just three lessons she had Duke in a trot and was neck reining all around the arena! I’m guessing by the end of the month she’ll be jumping him over obstacles…

Happy Second Birthday Cousin Zoe!

Saturday morning after Pancake Breakfast at school, we mosseyed north to McDonald’s Ranch to celebrate Zoe’s second birthday. We talked up the fact that there would be tons of animals to pet and horses to ride – B could hardly contain her excitment and took off running at the first suggestion of walking to the petting zoo.

The weather was perfect – close to 80 and sunny. Christiane packed a deliciously huge lunch for all the guests and we washed it down with some awesome birthday cake!
