Jumping Bean

Auggie got a new jumper for Christmas and Grandma and Grandpa were kind enough to deliver it a few weeks early and I swear the kid hasn’t left it since! He loves to bounce and spin and grab the toys. So much so that he’s worn through not one but TWO pairs of jammies. He’s literally jumping out of them!

Face Time Fiasco

I got a new Iphone 5 a few weeks ago and wanted to sell my old 4, but since the back was shattered, it was a no go. So PW and I decided we’d give it to Baylor to watch cartoons and play games on. A little ridiculous  yes, but it means that I can now take her on a run AND have my phone to listen to music. Also it means my icons will stay put instead of mysteriously disappearing…

Baylor is in love. She makes “phone calls”, “sends texts”, “writes emails” and plays games and watches Doc McStuffins. All perfectly safe since the phone is no longer connected to a network…or so I thought. I didn’t realize that when you turned the phone off and back on that it would take itself out of airplane mode. So last night she brings me her phone and says “my phone is talking to me”. I assumed she had dialed a number and was getting the recording that says you’re not connected to a network. But when I looked at her phone, our friend Brian was staring back at me. You can still make Iphone to Iphone calls, texts and Face Time if there is a wifi signal and since the phone wasn’t in airplane mode, she was able to Face Time  Brain.

All I can say is thank God she called someone we love and not a random water company customer or something. It was fun to catch up for a few minutes – he was very amused by the whole thing. It was also a good excuse to figure out how to turn off all the connections on the phone! Also we discovered that you can password protect adding and deleting icons (Settings – General – Restrictions) which will keep her from deleting and then moving my icons around so I’m confused about what is missing…

I woke up in the middle of the night wondering who she had been sending texts too and or Face Time requests. It took me 10 minutes to find the damn phone but when I did, it appears nothing funny went out – phew. But if for some reason you did get something odd from me, I’ve been hacked by a 3 year old.

Sick of Being Sick

Last Thursday everyone started feeling crummy…lots of sneezing, sore throats, stuffy noses all around. And of course, Baylor’s mystery cough was still present. Auggie’s tear ducts seemed to be infected (again) so we did a family trip to the doctor. An ear infection, a possible sinus infection, low oxygen levels and an eye infection were the diagnosis (and that was just the kids!). Four prescriptions later, we were out the door and on a first name basis with the lovely pharmacist at CVS.

Medicating the team is literally a full time gig. Antibiotics can’t be taken with reflux medicine. Probiotics needed to keep the antibiotics from killing off even the good bacteria…it’s a process to say the least. Also, see the white thing in the top of the big bottle? This is the greatest invention ever – it has a tiny hole that the measuring thing fits into so you can get every last drop of medicine without spilling!

Auggie has been sleeping in his car seat in our room for a week – it’s the only way he can sleep because if he is laying down, he gets stuffed up and wakes up. Last night I found him like this:

carseat_1

Which I took to mean he was ready to get back to his crib. I elevated the mattress and he slept the entire night in there – although he didn’t sleep the entire night. I don’t know if he’s having a growth spurt or catching up from not eating much last week – man that kid can really pack it away. He’s had two long naps today so fingers crossed, if it’s a growth spurt, we’ve entered the sleepy phase. 5 hour sleep stretches please come back!!

I broke down on Tuesday and called in reinforcements so I could go to the doctor. I took whichever doctor was available and got the guy who was going to solve all my problems. After 5 minutes of scrolling through my history he deduced that I go to the doctor approximately 4 times a year with a sinus infection. It took all my strength not to say “yeah. I know because I’M THE ONE WITH THE SINUS INFECTION”. He decided (after looking at what kind of health insurance I have – i.e. the kind that would pay for a lot of crap) that I needed an x-ray of my head. I did explain that I would do pretty much whatever he wanted as long as he promised me right now that I could have antibiotics and whatever else would make my teeth stop feeling like they were going to pop out of my mouth. 4 x-rays later he proclaimed “see that little, tiny, sliver of black right there? That’s your nasal airway. You really cannot breathe!!”. If I had had slept in increments longer than 90 minutes the night before, I very well might have punched him. He made good on his promise and loaded me up with the good stuff and 48 hours later, I’m feeling much improved. I still can’t smell, but I can breathe so I’ve got that going for me. And around here, sometimes it’s not a bad thing not to be able to smell anything…I go back in 2 weeks to have my head re x-rayed to look for an underlying cause of reoccurring sinus infections. I know Peter is dying to let out all the “you need your head examend  jokes he can think of.

Oh. And Auggie’s eye infection? Totally pink eye. And we all got it (except Peter, damn him). Talk about insult to injury. The smell of Vick’s Vapo Rub and bleach is almost visible around our house.

Auggie 2 and 3 months

Phew! I can’t believe the little guy is already 3 months old! I didn’t get the post up at 2 months, but at least I got the pictures.

Augg is a rolling pin – he’s back to front, front to back, sideways when he sleeps and when he needs a better view of what his sister is doing. He is only happy when he has a view of the action – and by action I mean whatever is going on. It could be the fan turning, he doesn’t care, he just needs to see it. He is eating like a pie eating contest contestant and weighed in at 16lbs on his 3 month birthday. New Year’s Day night he slept for a 5 hour stretch and has been doing the same almost every night. I’ve been able to see what my face looks like without dark bags under my eyes for the first time in months!

I have a sneaking suspicion that he is starting to teethe…fingers crossed he’s just drooling and putting his hands in his mouth for fun. He is working hard to master control of his hands – he gingerly reaches for bottles (shocker), his soft lamb toy and he has figured out how to make the ball spin on his bouncer.

Baylor is is his favorite person, period. He likes me a lot, but I think it’s because I feed him. Once she can share her snacks with him, I’ll be history. He was thrilled to lay on the floor and watch her play with Minnie and Daisy.

Thankfully, she is as thrilled with him as he is with her. I’m praying this lasts at least a few years…

Dear Santa

Baylor’s list this year includes a baby Bjorn for her doll Shirley and a real camera.  Grandma’s got the Bjorn and we got her a really cool, kid’s digital camera – in pink of course. The thing that bums me out is that Santa is going to get the credit for the amazing present idea!

She’s also so much smarter than me – I started to write out an envelope and she informed me that she’s going to hand deliver it to Santa at the mall this weekend. I’d like to think I just don’t get enough sleep and not that the 3 year old is brighter than I am…

Light It Up

This week marked our second time to Zoo Lights at the Phoenix Zoo – it also officially made it a tradition for us . PW and I couldn’t believe how much better it was than last year and we loved it last year! There were even more lights, more displays and a new light show that was fantastic. And thankfully Jengo, the talking giraffe was back… among millions of lights, the animatronic giraffe is Baylor’s favorite.

I’ve yet to master the night time shot with my good camera – not to mention I was loaded up like a pack mule with Auggie in the baby Bjorn and a bag with all the family’s, ahem, crap (sweatshirts, hats, bottles, diapers, snacks, gas drops…). However the Iphone camera didn’t disappoint. I was a little jealous of the photogs with their tripods and obvious knowledge of adjusting the exposure on their cameras…

There must be 50+ trees like this all lit up in different colors. The one at the entrance must be 200 feet tall and electric blue – it’s amazing. This one was our favorite. It looked like it was wrapped in candy.

Jengo! There is a guy hiding behind the screen and he answers questions and talks to the kids – watching them freak out over the giraffe talking to them is priceless. Baylor is still singing “Jengo bells! Jengo bells!”.

The lake has a huge sphere in the middle that changes color, spells out words, turns to flames, etc. Then the trees and some pillars in the lake all change color and “dance” to the rhythm of Trans-Siberian Orchestra. It was pretty amazing.

If you go, buy your tickets ON LINE AND PRINT THEM OUT.  There is always a massive line of people waiting to buy and we always stroll right by. At least we think that’s what they are doing. There’s a possibility we’ve jumped the line every year…There were also carriage rides that took you to a roped off section of the zoo – it was too much time for us, but if you try it and it’s worth it, let me know so we can factor it in for next year!

Auggie – 1 Month

I took a picture of Baylor each month of her first year with the same stuffed animal so that we could see how much she grew. It seemed only appropriate that we use the Augie Dogie blanket at a yard stick for Auggie baby.

A just started to really smile this month – he will smile back at you and also when you tickle his chin.

Halloween Recap

I came across pictures from Halloween and felt that despite the fact it’s mid November, they needed their own post. I’ve been busy, you know, not sleeping.

We teamed up with B’s buddy Morgan for the annual Trunk or Treat. Morgan’s parents, Stephanie and Jeff, are some of our favorite people. When Jeff and Peter met last year, Stephanie and I had to check to make sure they didn’t know each other prior to parent’s night, that’s how well they got along in the first 10 minutes of meeting each other. It was weird. But a good weird. They share a love of trucks, college football, alt county and unheard of beer labels. Stephanie and I are room moms together and have the same “I tackle 18 things at one time” mentality. The difference is, she makes it look good.

Our collective theme for Trunk or Treat was Pumpkin Patch. We brought the hay, they brought the scarecrows and pumpkins. In about 2 minutes, we were set up and the candy was ready to be handed out. We did make Peter and Jeff dress like farmers…however where we were thinking they should have overalls and straw hats, they both took an alternative route….well, you’ll see.

All in all, it was another super fun TorT event!

The “farmers”. Peter explained that every farmer he’s ever met dressed like this. The scary part? They both already owned the clothes they are wearing.

Minnie Mouse was not into taking pictures…Auggie was enjoying his pumpkin hat

Enjoying their pizza before the fun started!

For actual Halloween, we joined our friends the Lovells for their annual party. They are the greatest hosts – they always have the most delicious food, wine and candy! We set up shop in their driveway and take turns trick or treating, eating, trick or treating, playing, eating…you get the picture.

Minnie Mouse – take 2. Last year her costume was a hand me down from cousin Madi that was the real deal. It was bought at Disney World and had all the accessories  This year she had to settle for one ordered from the Disney store – which you would think would be nice. You would be wrong.

Poor second child…mommy didn’t even get him a real costume.
